4 Ways to Make Your Home Friendly for Kids
When you have kids in the house, you can’t help but worry about what they are up to and how safe they are, especially when you are not watching over them. Kids care more about fun than safety, thus you cannot take any chances on their safety. If anything, it is you who will take care of damages and injuries when they mess up.
One of the items you can consider is the sofas. Kids love to play on sofas while in the house and they do not know how to keep them clean. They pour drinks and food items on them, sit on them with dirty clothes, and step on them with dirty feet and shoes. No matter how many times you advise them otherwise, it always happens. To minimize your pressure and keep them comfortable at the same time, purchase leather sofas of high quality that are sturdy and easy to clean. Or, choose slip covered couches that have fabric which is stain resistant for easy cleaning.
The other thing to also consider is your coffee table and cupboards. It is not a great idea to have sharp edged furniture in your home, mainly when you have tiny ones who are teaching themselves to walk. The sharp edges of furniture can cause serious injuries if someone hits themselves against them, and they are quite painful. Instead, purchase round and oval shaped tables and have them cushioned if you can to make them dull, and cupboards with blunted edges. This minimizes the chances of injuries to your kids, especially when they get rough. Do not purchase cupboards for your home when you have young kids, but if it is inevitable, make sure they are very heavy and not placed in rooms where kids often go.
The kind of flooring you choose when you have kids around is also critical. The right kind of floor to have when you have kids around is one which is not slippery, hard to clean, or cold. Hardwood floors are easy to clean, but very slippery especially when one has socks on. Concrete floors are also easy to clean, but can get very cold and freeze your little ones’ feet. Carpet tiles are a better flooring option when you have kids around because they are easy to clean, slip resistant, and warm.
When you have kids at the crayons stage, your walls will be a source of stress. But, you can coat your walls with an easy to clean type of paint in areas where the kids frequent a lot or install chalkboards on the walls to make both you and your kids happy. Again, no matter how many times you tell them not to do things that you do not want them to, they will repeat them. Be smart!
